Once separated, further removal of fission products is undertaken by more mixer settler units.
2.
Uranium purification is achieved using three mixer settlers ( UP1-UP3 ) similar to those in use on the existing Magnox reprocessing plant.
3.
The solvent stream of U, Pu and remaining fission products then passes to the critical mixer settler stages where the U and Pu are transferred into the aqueous phase and fission products remains in the aqueous phase.
4.
In the multiple countercurrent process, multiple mixer settlers are installed with mixing and settling chambers located at alternating ends for each stage ( since the outlet of the settling sections feed the inlets of the adjacent stage s mixing sections ).
5.
The second laboratory contains two modules, module 4, whish is a lead shielded glove box for second stage fission product separation using mixer settlers, while module 5, is an unshielded glove box for the separation of plutonium from uranium.
